Why was the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine given a location at De Uithof?

Rapid growth

After stagnating during the Depression and the Second Word War, the faculty started to grow rapidly from the 1960s onwards. People began to invest more time and money into hobbies, including keeping all kinds of animals for company, recreation and sports.

In addition, the livestock industry grew, thanks to scaling-up and intensification...

Therefore, the demand for veterinarians also grew rapidly. And not just in the field, the number of patients at the faculty also hugely increased.

This made moving from the inner city to De Uithof a necessity in the period 1967–88

After all, an abundance of modern facilities was available in the University complex.
